Thank you for your question!
When you go to the pharmacy with the prescription, please make sure that the mention that you are breastfeeding, as well as any other aspect of your health (intended pregnancy, allergies, intolerances, preferences, etc.) are duly recorded in your file.
I want to reassure you that although oxycodone is found in small amounts in breast milk (just like Tylenol and Advil), this is not strictly speaking toxic to the baby, especially in the context of occasional use or for only a few days. It is usually recommended to monitor his or her general condition, namely drowsiness/irritability, and the occurrence of constipation in particular.
I would also like to point out that several studies have shown that the Tylenol/Advil combination is generally effective for pain following dental surgery. You can try these products first, and then only use oxycodone in case of a flare-up of pain, if that ever happens. You can even get a small amount of oxycodone tablets if you want, or leave it on file.
There is no obligation to use it, but you should know that it is ok when used for a short period of time.
I hope I've put your mind at ease, and I'm available if you have any further questions!
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
