Hello!
Thank you for using this platform to ask your question
Indeed, the moment of introduction of complementary foods (other than breastfeeding) can be a source of questioning for parents
In the natural development of the child, around 6 months, nutritional needs increase and the child needs foods that will provide energy. At this age, the need for iron increases, so cereals can fill this need while waiting for the introduction of meats and substitutes
Pablum is a cereal-based baby food enriched with iron and can therefore be introduced as early as 6 months of age. An earlier introduction can have consequences because the child does not have the digestive system to assimilate these nutrients. Moreover, the child could lose interest in the beers which are much more nutritious than cereals. It is therefore important to make sure that the child is ready, he should show these signs
  • Baby is sitting up unassisted
  • Baby shows interest in food
  • Baby is able to push objects away
  • Baby asks for a drink very often, even if it is more than 40oz a day
At this point it is safe to introduce complementary foods. There are some babies that show these signs around 4 months of age but this is the cut-off age for introducing complementary foods
