My husband has heavy burping spells quite often. It can start at any time and he pushes on his left chest when it happens. Like many men, he doesn’t want to see a doctor for his condition even though he add a double bypass almost 20 years ago. He is 80 and otherwise in pretty good shape for his age.
What could it possibly be? I think he talked about it to his general doctor in the past but was not told to do or take anything for his problem.

Hi, and thank you for your question!
These symptoms often are linked to what your husband has eaten. What I can suggest is keeping a journal of what he's consuming in order to compare it to the appearance and severity of the burping. He might be able to identify certain foods that cause or increase the problem.
Otherwise, if it starts impeding on his quality of life, it might warrant a doctor's visit, just as a precaution.
Hoping I've been helpful, don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions
