Are collagen supplements compatible with breastfeeding? Are they really effective?

32-year-old woman4 years ago
My baby is 4 months old and I am exclusively breastfeeding. I am losing my hair a lot, which is the main reason why I am wondering if this would be something to try to reduce the loss or to promote growth. I was suggested the Genuine Health brand of marine collagen sold at La Shop. Thank you so much for your help!

Hello Ma'am,
No, this is not effective at all in your situation. Postpartum hair loss is completely normal and no amount of supplements taken by mouth will prevent it (even though you feel like at this rate you won't have any left on your head at all in a few weeks :). )
In this type of situation, you simply need to reduce the "stress" on the hair, by not tying it up too tightly, avoiding styling products that are too "strong" (e.g., dye), and avoiding blow drying it too hot.
In a few weeks, the situation will be under control and about 1 year postpartum your hair will be in "regrowth" mode.
