How to wean off Biphentin?

40-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello. My almost 11 year old daughter was diagnosed with tda in 2019. She then started medication. Vyvense first which was not for her. Then Concerta for over a year. Everything was fine until the arrival of big tics (muscle spasms). For the last 2 weeks we have been trying Biphentin 30 mg but her anxiety is really on the rise, she has hot flashes and stomach aches. I am thinking that this molecule is not suitable for her either. Currently the side effects are more important than the ADD itself. I would like to wean her off the medication, rest her body. *Note that her family doctor is now on maternity leave. This is why I am turning to this service. Thank you so much for your help!

Good morning, ma'am,
The medication does not need to be weaned gradually
You are reporting side effects with Biphentin 30 mg per day. Did your child have these side effects with the 20 mg dose? Was 20 mg at least partially effective?
If so, you may want to discuss this with your pharmacist to try a dose adjustment, or to suggest additions to a smaller dose to a doctor who can take over.
Having said that, I understand that your child's doctor may not be available, but if you notice that your child's ADD symptoms are preventing him or her from functioning, either in school or in social interactions, it would be best to re-consult so as not to delay the right treatment, whether it be pharmacological or not.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
