In addition to Syntrhoid 0.112 mg, I take Onglyza, Diamicron and Invocana. My TSH went out of whack and the endocrinologist increased my Synthorid dose from 0.100 mg to 0.112 mg (since 3 weeks). I am shocked to read in the Synthroid monograph that this drug increases sugar levels. Is this true? I am very discouraged, it seems to me that I will never get out of it, it is a vicious circle. Thank you for enlightening me (PS my blood sugars are normal since the Synthroid dose was increased).

Hello, Synthroid is a thyroid hormone substitute that is necessary for metabolism. This medication is not known to increase blood sugar levels. Moreover, according to a reference consulted, it would even help to increase insulin secretion in the blood. Therefore, one would expect a decrease in blood sugar. I think the best thing to do is to continue to monitor your blood sugar levels and talk to your diabetes doctor if you notice a change. I look forward to hearing from you!
