Persistent cough after the flu, what can I do?

40-year-old womana year ago
I have had a good flu (not COVID) for at least 7 days. I had a dry cough at the beginning which became greasy. My throat tickles and causes me to have fits of all mainly at night. I had white on my tonsils at first causing me to lose my voice and pain when I swallow. Now I still have a cough, but I have pain in my trachea and when I swallow I feel like the food is going down very tightly.

Hello Mrs.,
In order to better understand the situation, would it be possible to know if you have tried or taken anything for your symptoms?
Thank you!

Hello and thank you for your answer,
i initially took benylin Dm for dry cough. Then I took cepacole lozenges for the tickle and pain. Finally, I took tylenol cold for my congestion and headache

Thank you for the information.
At first glance, I would suggest acetaminophen (Tylenol and other brands) for throat pain relief among other things (do not take with Tylenol for colds and sinus)
I also suggest lozenges like Halls or Fisherman's Friend if needed, for local relief of throat irritation.
Most importantly, nasal hygiene with a saline solution (Hydrasense, Sinus Rinse and others) can be done as often as needed during the day, and at least 30 minutes before bedtime. By 'cleaning' the nasal secretions, we can reduce the feeling of pressure in the sinuses and prevent them from flowing backwards into the throat, which very often causes coughing and throat irritation. It's a little unpleasant but it works wonders!
I encourage you to drink lots of fluids, cold or hot, as you prefer.
If symptoms persist for more than 7 days without improvement, you should consult a doctor.
I hope I've been helpful and I'm available if you have any other questions!
