Tampons, how to use it well?

18-year-old woman3 years ago
Hello! I've been on my period for about 3-4 months now and I decided to put a tampon in because I ran out of pads and I wanted to try it (I'm on my period now) but when I put it in it didn't go well. First I felt it (because I put it in the wrong way surely oops) and second a few seconds after putting it in I started to feel sick. Is this normal? (Regular tampon not too big, with Always applicator)

Hello Ma'am,
It can be difficult to insert a tampon for the first time, the discomfort you felt is normal because you are not used to the feeling. Indeed, it is difficult to know how to position your body and in which angle to insert the tampon. To begin with, I suggest that you choose the "slim" size when learning to use tampons. If you're not sure where the opening of your vagina is, use a mirror to see your vulva, the outer part of your genitals. Usually, after a few tries, you will find the way that works best for you! Finally, don't put too much pressure on yourself, some people don't like using tampons and use pads or the vaginal cup regularly!
For tampon application technique or to get more information, I refer you to this section of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada: https://www.yourperiod.ca/fr/normal-periods/your-first-period/#usetampon
I hope I have answered your question!
