Can I take cold syrups if I am pregnant? Can I get a booster dose if I am pregnant? Can I take Tylenol during pregnancy?

Hello! Well I don't know how to ask you my question. My husband and I are double vaccinated and just before the Christmas vacations our 5 year old boy (we were going to vaccinate him) tested positive for covid and then my daughter got sick (soon to be 3). Then my husband and I... well my symptoms have been going on for 2 weeks. Like a flu not enough to get me hospitalized. However, I had started to have various pains that reminded me of my previous pregnancies. I just took the test as I am two days late and I am also pregnant. I had not planned anything. For 3 days I had taken benylin and Nikyl. The rest is saline water to unblock my nose and some throat lozenges that I changed for saline water. My question would be: can this do anything to my baby? And when to take a third vaccine while pregnant. Thank you for your help!

Hello ma'am, thank you for your question, and congratulations!
There are several Benylin and Nyquil products with different ingredients. If you tell me exactly which product you took, I can research their safety during pregnancy.
However, the majority of the ingredients in these products are as follows:
doxylamine, pseudoephedrine, phenylephrine, dextromethorphan. The 2 decongestants (in bold) are usually best avoided in the first trimester, but inadvertent exposure to them once or twice is unlikely to cause a problem. Just mention it to your doctor at your first appointment.
Unfortunately, COVID carries a higher risk of complications in pregnant women. However, if you have had a positive test, it may provide similar protection as a 3rd dose. If you still want to get a 3rd dose, it is recommended that you wait ideally 3 months following the illness, and at least 8 weeks. Vaccination is strongly recommended for pregnant women, for influenza and COVID, and is safe.
I hope this has been helpful to you, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions!

Finally, Tylenol is safe during pregnancy, but just be careful to avoid taking it from many sources: many products and syrups also contain it.
It's my pleasure!
