What would be the ideal time for an injection of Methotrexate to limit the side effects?

I take methotrexate injection on Monday night. I'm really not in shape on Tuesday; could I take it on Monday morning?

Good evening, Thank you for your question! Methotrexate injections are generally recommended to be given at bedtime to avoid side effects such as fatigue, nausea, etc. during the day. Although it may be acceptable to give your injection in the morning, I would not recommend it as you may feel tired and nauseous for the entire day. In order to limit the side effects of taking Methotrexate, are you taking folic acid? If so, how much? An insufficient dose of folic acid could lead to more intense side effects. There are other options that may be of interest to avoid side effects. One option would be to do your Methotrexate injection on Friday night. The hardest day for side effects would then be Saturday, a day when most people can afford to be slightly less productive. On the other hand, some patients who have difficulty tolerating Methotrexate receive their dose divided into 2 injections. For example, for a 15mg dose; a 7.5mg injection twice a week could be considered. I hope I have answered your question. I encourage you to discuss your situation with your doctor or pharmacist who will be able to adapt these recommendations to your situation. Pleasure, Laurie Hudon-Germain, pharmacist
