When is a return of menstruation considered late?

30-year-old woman4 years ago
Hello, I gave birth in early August 2019 (my daughter is 5 1/2 months old), and I still haven't had a return of my period (despite menstrual style cramps for a few weeks). My lochia lasted 5 weeks postpartum. I breastfed exclusively from 0 to 2 months, then mixed breastfeeding from 2 to 3 months. My daughter has been bottle feeding for more than 2 months. As a precaution, I took a pregnancy test (NEGATIVE). At what point should I consult a doctor if my period does not return despite weaning from breastfeeding? Thank you very much in advance for this information!

Hello Ma'am,
After childbirth, there is no need to worry about a "late" return of menstruation for at least 3 to 4 months after breastfeeding has stopped completely. This means that in your situation, even if your period does not return in 2 months, there is still no reason to worry :).
If you are sexually active, I recommend that you take birth control despite the absence of the return of menstruation.
Good day,
