What to do about frequent diarrhea?

24-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello, I have endometriosis and I have symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome which is the alternation between constipation and diarrhea. Sometimes I will eat fruits and vegetables and it will go away. Sometimes I'll eat sugar or salt and the same thing. It depends, but in general, the watery stools are mostly during ovulation and menstruation. I have been told about the fake diarrhea, however I really do void and it is really hard to live with in everyday life outside of the house. I am traumatized by it and think about it every time I go out, travel, drive or work. Sometimes I don't eat all day if I feel I'm not well. It's very difficult to live with and the doctors don't care. I don't know what to do anymore. They told me about immodium because smecta doesn't work for me. I wanted to try psyllium, what do you think? Or another solution... Thank you!

Hello ma'am, I'm sorry to read about your troubles!
Imodium is not recommended other than for occasional diarrhea, unless explicitly advised by a physician
Irritable bowel syndrome is difficult to treat because little is known about the condition
However, identifyingfoods, situations and states of mind that may trigger symptoms is the basis for treatment
If you haven't already started, I suggest that you keep a diary to record exactly what you eat and how much, what you do and how you feel about it so that you can compare it to the onset and extent of your symptoms. This can take several weeks so it requires patience and perseverance.
If this does not bring fruit, you will have to consult a doctor to evaluate your health condition and your needs.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
