Since last night, my ears hurt terribly. Is it an ear infection?

Hello Ma'am,
It is possible that your cold has caused mucus to rise from your throat to your ears (as shown here). In such a situation, the mucus should be removed from the ear using the following technique:
  1. Use a product to first decrease the amount of mucus in your nose, like Sinus Rinse™. This product will be used twice a day for about 5 days;
  2. Once the nose has been "cleaned" with Sinus Rinse™, employ a product such as Otrivin™ or Dristan™ nasal spray to open the Eustachian tube, the canal that connects the ear to the throat;
  3. 30 to 45 minutes after using Otrivin™ or Dristan™, do the modified Valsalva technique, which involves pinching your nose with your fingers, closing it and "blowing" while swallowing;
This technique opens up the opening of the canal and allows the fluid in your ear to flow out.
If this technique worsens your pain or does not significantly improve it after 2 to 3 days, or if you have a fever, you will need to go see a doctor.
It is my pleasure,
Alexandre Chagnon, pharmacist
