My doc M, prescribed Naproxen 500mg co for my spine, hip, knee pain. Then M, sent for many rx. He also suspects problems with my left meniscus (MRI to come). I broke tibia-peroneal in 3 places, near the ankle, in March 2014 with result of 2 rods and 12 screws; all of this is removed in June 2015. Then, since then, still have pain back, hips, even if physio and / or chiro always. Then, this Naproxen relieves in 1 tablet half of my pains! Wow! What worries me is that he forgot to tell me how long I should take the Naproxen (prescribed 12 x). Will I become ACCREDITED? Consequences? My doc is retiring in 1 year... thanks for your great site: finally something sensible,

Good morning, Madam,

You will not become addicted to Naproxen. The only addiction that can occur with this medication is a psychological one. By associating the drug with the strong relief it provides, you may be tempted to use it on a regular basis. This is exactly what should be avoided with anti-inflammatory drugs.

I can see from the description of your question that the pain is very uncomfortable for you. Considering this, are you taking any other medications (for pain or otherwise)? Have any pain medications provided some relief in the past (Tylenol for example)?

I ask this question because we should try to limit the long-term use of Naproxen as much as possible, and to do this we need to find drugs with which it can be combined.

Considering the consequences of Naproxen, let's note among others the risk of digestive irritation (e.g.: stomach ulcer), the risk of kidney damage and the cardiac risk (see next article: http://lactualite.com/sante-et-science/2017/05/09/anti-inflammatoires-et-crises-cardiaques-une-etude-majeure/).
