Do you think that taking Modafinil is a viable option to counteract the drowsiness caused by my antidepressant Effexor? If not, do you have any other suggestions?

Hello, I am taking Effexor for depression, anxiety and mood disorders. This is the third kind of anti-depressant I've tried (I've taken Cipralex and wellbutrin) and this one doesn't escape the fact that it makes me extremely sleepy. Even with a lowered dose of anti-depressants, I fall asleep everywhere (while driving, at work, when someone is talking to me). I have read that Modafinil helps with concentration and alertness and prevents drowsiness. Would this be an option to treat my drowsiness? If not, do you have any other suggestions? Thank you!

Hello !
The antidepressants you tried are the ones that cause the least amount of drowsiness
I have two other choices to suggest to you before switching to Modafinil or Methylphenidate. Since in this case you are going to cause a drug cascade, you treat a side effect with another drug and so on, which is often to be avoided if you can do otherwise.
The two antidepressants you can try are : Pristiq or Cymbalta.
These two antidepressants do not normally cause drowsiness. Discuss this with your doctor.
I also suggest some non-pharmacological measures
Get to know the rhythm of your sleep bouts from a sleep-wake diary completed for at least 15 days. You can download a sleep diary to fill out at home on a daily basis.
Sleep a minimum of 9 to 10 hours per 24 hours, giving priority to the night.
Don't fight sleep, but prevent excessive sleep by taking short naps of less than 20 minutes during peak sleepiness periods.
Learn flash or polyphasic sleep techniques that restore alertness for short periods of time.
If with all of these measures, and the change in therapy the problem persists, at this point, you can move on to the use of Modafinil or Methylphenidate. You can discuss these treatments with your doctor
Have a good day and good coffee!
