I have had a terrible sore throat for some time. What lozenge can I take when I am pregnant? I love cepacol, is it safe? Thank you for your answer! :)

Hello Mrs.,
For sore throats, I recommend that you do not take Cepacol, as it has not been proven beyond doubt that this medication (the benzocaine it contains) is completely safe in pregnancy. Instead, opt for small, sweet candies that will allow you to "salivate" and thus temporarily relieve your sore throat. Try to choose sugar-free candy if you have gestational diabetes. If you don't have diabetes, you could also try taking honey, taking care to dilute it a little with water and to warm it up a few seconds before taking it. This way, you will soothe your throat as if it were a syrup. Does this answer your question?
