My baby has irritated skin?

My 6 day old baby has a lot of irritation under one armpit (very red, raw skin), possibly due to the moisture in that area. Is the use of hydrocortisone 0.5 adequate and how often? If not, what other treatments can we use? Thank you for your help!

Hello, thank you for your question!
The use of hydrocortisone (HC) 0.5% is not contraindicated. It could help reduce the redness and irritation. The basis of treatment remains hydration. The HC can be applied twice a day, and a few minutes after it has dried, I strongly suggest you apply a moisturizing cream (without perfume like Aveeno for example) to help make the healing process faster. The cream can be used as often as needed
After bathing, avoid rubbing the irritated area dry. Instead, lightly pat and apply the moisturizer within 5 minutes of getting out of the bath.
If you don't notice any improvement, or if the condition worsens in the next few days, consult a doctor.
I hope I have helped you, and I remain available if you have any other questions!
