I was prescribed a cream (2x a day) of Monistat 2% and hydrocortisone 1% for irritation/redness on the glans. I put 7 days of it and there was an improvement, but it's not completely gone. Is there a maximum number of days I can take this medication?

As far as symptoms are concerned, it was mostly redness/irritation with a burning sensation that comes and goes and like small patches. With the cream, the redness decreased, but the small patches did not go away completely.

Are the burning and irritation feelings completely gone?

If this is the case, I recommend that you do not continue the cream for longer than 7 days. First of all, Monistat should be used for 3 or 7 days in case of irritation caused by Candida (the yeast that gives vaginal infections in women), while cortisone cream applied on the glans is highly absorbed (up to 42% according to the references consulted), which limits the recommended duration of use

I wouldn't say it's completely gone (especially at the end of the day that it seems to get worse). Maybe the rubbing with clothes. I feel like it could be eczema or psoriasis. But, I got some unflavored soap, I wash it 1x/d and wipe it well. I think it should go away with time with these methods.

It is indeed not impossible to suffer from these skin problems in this area. That said, it is important to make sure that the skin is not too dry. You talk about rubbing your clothes, but you also have to be careful with hygiene. Soaps that dry out the skin a lot and rubbing a little too much to wipe well could contribute to creating inflammation there.

And yes, your symptoms should pass with time and these few tips. However, if you are still suffering from them in 10-14 days, I invite you to write us again or to go see a doctor.

The symptoms have not improved since stopping the medication. The redness is still a bit present, but the skin is even drier than before. At the level of the shaft (skin under the glans), the skin peels (small flakes) which I did not have before the cream. However, I only wash with water at the moment and I am careful not to rub too much. Could it be an effect of the medication that continues despite the fact that I stopped taking it 8 days ago?

That would surprise me greatly. I would advise you to go back and show the little flakes you are referring to. By seeing them, the doctor will have a good idea of the condition you are suffering from at the moment.
