I often have cold sores around my mouth, almost every month. It seems to be related to my menstrual cycle. What can I do to prevent it from always coming out like this?

There are several options: If you are on the pill, you may want to consider taking it continuously in order to skip the menstrual periods. Alternatively, a doctor can prescribe an antiviral (e.g. Valtrex) to be taken daily as a preventive measure. Finally, over-the-counter lysine 500 mg once a day may help prevent cold sores. Basic oral hygiene measures should also be adopted: moisturize the lips, use a balm with SPF to protect them, avoid touching the cold sore, etc
