What should I do about my 2 year old daughter's fever?

Hello, I have a 2 1/2 year old girl who has had a fever for 72 hours. Every time she has a fever she is gone for a big 5 day fever. How can I help my daughter get rid of the fever, besides Tylenol? Vitamin?

Thank you for your question!
Acetaminophen (Tylenol, Tempra and other brands) remains the best solution for reducing fever. This medication is given according to your child's weight. I invite you to contact your pharmacist who will be able to tell you the exact volume to give your child, depending on the concentration of the product you have.
Some non-pharmacological measures can be tried:
  • Encourage plenty of fluids.
  • Dress your child in diapers so that you can undress her a little if she is too hot (without completely undressing her)
Be aware, however, that a fever that lasts more than 72 hours in a child requires medical evaluation. If your child really does have a fever for 72 hours, measured with a thermometer (the rectal route is the most accurate at this age), please consult a doctor.
Sincerely
Tom Samaha, Pharmacist
