My daughter got pinworms at school. 7 days after the oral treatment, I still see worms in her stool. Is this normal or not?

She is healthy and does not take any medication. The whole family has done the treatment. The house has been disinfected, showered every morning, sheets washed every 3 days etc.

Hello to you,
Yes, it is possible that you are still seeing worms, which is why it is important to repeat the treatment after 2 weeks. The medication does not kill the worms or the nits; it only paralyzes them, which allows the digestive system to expel them.
If you still see worms a few days after the second treatment, however, it's possible that your child has been reinfected and needs to be retreated.
In the meantime, a reminder of cleaning measures to follow:
  • Wash hands often, especially before eating and after using the bathroom.
  • Avoid scratching your anus and putting your hands to your mouth.
  • Cut fingernails short to minimize scratching and eggs under the fingernails.
  • Have the child wear tight-fitting underwear under pajamas to prevent scratching In the morning, remove the underwear directly into the shower area, then shower to remove eggs deposited in the anal area overnight
  • Change and wash bedding, pajamas and underwear daily in hot water, avoiding shaking them to prevent the spread of eggs in the environment
  • Keep curtains open in bedrooms and sleeping areas to allow daylight to enter the room and help destroy eggs.
  • Wash the shower and toilet frequently.
  • Vacuuming, especially in the child's room.
I hope I have answered your question correctly!

Thank you very much! It is very much appreciated! I was also wondering about myself... I took the pyrantel medication as prescribed by the pharmacist at the same time as my daughter, 8 days ago. For the past 4 days, I have had discomfort (like a bar pain) under my ribs and my urine is very dark. Is this a side effect of the medication? Should I consult? Thank you very much again! My daughter has not had any side effects

Are your bowel movements normal?
I would also like to determine if you have been dehydrated (less fluids than usual, diarrhea/vomiting, more physical exertion, etc.) in the last few days.
