How do I know if I have a vaginal infection?

Hello, I have symptoms that are similar to a bacterial vaginal infection, but I would like to be sure. I have itching and mild irritation in my vulva and my vaginal discharge has a peculiar, perhaps fishy smell. My discharge, which is liquid, is clear, not yellowish. Okay, thanks!
