Do the side effects of Champix (varenicline) diminish over time?

I started Champix treatment on July 8, 2017 in the morning with 0.5 mg. In the afternoon I felt confused, difficulty concentrating, a little depressed, anxious. Since the treatment is for 3 months, I do not want to live this 84 consecutive days. So this morning I decided to take 0.25 mg instead of 0.5 mg to see the difference with yesterday. Taking half a dose was a good idea. As it was your first dose, I would have advised you to persist only for a few days, to be sure that your side effects were not circumstantial. If it continues for several days, unfortunately, it may be thought that this medication is not suitable for you. You will then have to consult your doctor or pharmacist for an alternative treatment. Good luck! Sometimes yes, but most of the time no. Lowering the dose was a good reflex to make it work. If you feel better at a lower dose, you can try to increase it again later.
