I am pregnant and have heartburn. I am already taking omeprazole 20 mg DIE and gaviscon PRN (Mac dose of 3/day written on the box)

What is the real maximum amount I can take of gaviscon per day? 3 is totally insufficient and I suffer even if I pay attention to my diet.

Hello,
first of all, could you tell me what active products are in your gaviscon? Is it only alginic acid, or is there also magnesium? What is their content (in mg)? I ask this question because there are many formulations of gaviscon available over the counter.
Secondly, in pregnant women, the possible dosage of omeprazole is 20 to 40mg per day. I would encourage you to discuss this with your pharmacist for an increase if the relief is only partial.

I am sure it is heartburn. I was taking pantoloc before I was pregnant and heartburn is nothing new for me.
For the gaviscon I am using right now it is gaviscon extra strength 60foamtabs mint chewable, 313mg alginic acid, 63mg magnesium carbonate. On the box it is written not to exceed 3co per day while pregnant.

This manufacturer's recommendation is to ensure greater safety. However, it is possible to take 1-2 extra strength tablets up to 4 times a day when pregnant, but for a maximum of 6 tablets a day.
Otherwise, talk to your pharmacist about the dose of omeprazole to see if an increase in dose would be a good idea for you.
Finally, are you doing anything other than watching your diet? Have you been told about the other measures?
  • Avoid eating and drinking 3 hours before bedtime.
  • Raise the head of the bed 10 to 15 cm and sleep on your left side if the reflux occurs at night.
  • Avoid certain foods (fatty foods, spicy foods, mint) and beverages (soft drinks, tomato juice, coffee, tea, alcohol)
  • Eating smaller meals more frequently.
