Hello, I am 37 weeks pregnant and I have a stye. I use hot water compresses, but can I use something else?

Hello!
Warm compresses are usually enough to help a stye heal.
Chalazion and stye can look alike, both are small bumps on the upper or lower eyelid
The treatment is usually the same, warm compresses as you do. In the case of stye, as it usually appears as a result of an infection of the infected eyelash follicle, antibiotics are sometimes prescribed, although their effectiveness is usually limited.
See below for more information
If you have these symptoms, it is best to see your doctor. He or she can prescribe something if necessary:
  • your stye is getting bigger and bigger;
  • your eyelid is very swollen or red
  • you have other eye symptoms, such as redness outside the eyelid;
  • the redness or swelling spreads to your cheek or other parts of your face
  • you have discharge, especially if it is coloured;
  • the skin around your eye peels;
  • you have bleeding;
  • your vision is impaired;
  • you have a fever.
We hope this is helpful to you,
Marie-Laurence Gauthier, pharmacist.
