Hello, the guidelines for taking Synthroid have changed. Before, it was taken 30 minutes on an empty stomach. Now it is only mentioned 4 hours before or after taking calcium or iron. Can I eat dairy products for example after taking Synthroid? Should I wait? Thank you

Hello, generally speaking, it is recommended to take synthroid on an empty stomach (30-60 minutes before a meal). However, if synthroid has always been taken at the same time as meals and the dose has been adjusted accordingly, there is no problem. If this is not the case, it is recommended to space out the intake of synthroid and food. As for dairy products/calcium/iron, it is very important to space them out by at least 1 hour (these have a major impact on synthroid).
