Repeated vaginal infections

35-year-old woman5 years ago
Hello, I am a bit discouraged, I have had feminine problems since the beginning of July. I had itching and small losses, I thought I had a yeast infection, so I took canesten. The symptoms decreased, then gradually resumed. It stung, burning sensations July 25: bacterial vaginosis diagnosed by vaginal culture. Then took metronidazole 250 mg one week with several undesirable side effects. Then gradual resumption. On August 3, I still had symptoms, I went to see a pharmacist, he gave me a tablet of riva-fluconazole. On August 9, (decrease and resumption) I still had symptoms. I tried coconut oil (natural antifungal)?! Then another vaginal culture which turned out to be negative. Then on September 23, again the whole battery of tests (always with tests for mts in addition). I then got a call to retest because they had not identified my tubes for the lab. October 1st, tests resumed. Result on October 5th: candida infection (so fungus) but not the classic type which is candida albicans. This according to my doctor would have explained the partial effectiveness of the previous treatments. I then took terconazole for one week, until September 11 inclusively. The symptoms disappeared. On October 15, I had protected sex. 24 to 48 hours later, partial reappearance of symptoms. Is it possible that I passed it on to my partner? Do you have any advice on what to do next? What about sex? I would like to be done with this story and have a normal flora. I also bought renewlife probiotics with a specification for vaginal flora, I also bought a vagisil cream and soap. Thank you for your answer.

Good morning, Madam. Thank you for your message.
I'm sorry to read about your troubles!
Yes, this type of infection can be passed on to your partner. However, since you mentioned that it was protected sex, it's a little less likely that this is what happened. Unfortunately, it is possible that sex (protected or unprotected) can be a risk factor for this type of infection, especially for people who have had it in the past
The probiotics you purchased are mainly for prevention and not for treatment, so it would be wise to wait until you are symptom free before starting them. As for Vagisil, these products often contain fragrances and irritating ingredients and should ideally be avoided
I would encourage you to consult your doctor, who could do a new culture to make sure of the right diagnosis. If it is still a fungal infection, after the treatment, it would be appropriate to discuss with your doctor the possibility of starting a preventive therapy over a few weeks or months
