How long does it take for the pumps to work? And how do you know if there is any medicine left inside?

Hello,

Do you have the Diskus form (the round pump) or the inhaler form (small bottle in an "L" shaped device)? This changes the way you see if there is any dose left in the pump. Also, were these pumps prescribed to you for coughing? And finally, is this the first time you have been prescribed them, or do you take them regularly?

This is not the first time he has had pumps. It is in an inhaler with the kind of mask. The pumps were prescribed for a cold that has lasted more than 3 weeks with a rheumatic but now he coughs a lot (it is for a baby of 15 months)

Thank you for this information. It is indeed very difficult to know how much medication remains in the inhaler-type pump. The "easiest" way is to know the number of doses in the pump at the time of purchase and subtract the number of doses taken. For example, for Flovent (fluticasone), there are usually 120 doses in a new pump (information found on the box). Using 2 doses twice a day, the pump will last 30 days. There is also the trick of dipping the medication bottle (after removing it from the device) into water, a bottle that floats is considered to still contain medication. This trick is not very reliable, however.

The orange pump should improve your boy's condition in a few days (3-4, maximum). If it doesn't, if your boy still has a fever, is "ugly", coughs to the point of waking up or vomiting, or has trouble breathing, it's best to go back to the doctor.

Of course, the pump with the mask must be used in an optimal way, as presented in the following video: https://youtu.be/von7cyXcj2c

Thank you so much! I finally went back to the doctor. I was diagnosed with bronco spasm.

I am glad to see that you have managed to see a doctor again. Did he prescribe new treatments or is it still the two pumps (blue and orange)?

Still the same pump but the doctor advised me to increase the dose of ventolin to 3 hours for 48 hours and then return to the normal dose
