I have a decreased libido with my pressure medication, is this normal?

I am a 50 year old man and I have been taking hydrochlorothiazide (apo-hydro) 25mg for 2 or 3 years. Since then, I have felt a decrease in sexual desire, is this normal? What would be the solutions to regain this loss?

Hello sir, thank you for your question. Decreased libido is often associated with factors other than these medications. We will examine your situation together to find out if another factor could have been involved. Could you please confirm what your lifestyle habits are regarding smoking, alcohol intake and exercise. With this information, I will be better able to advise you

Hello, I have never smoked, I don't drink alcohol, I have 10-12 drinks a year, I don't take any drugs, I am a manual worker. I consider myself to have a good diet and I have gonnartrhosis. I have received one dose of Synvisc One to treat it so far. I have no financial problems, no house payments and I am financially very comfortable. I am also taking rosuvastatin 5mg. Is this the problem? I specify: erection is long to reach, loses quickly, ejaculation is difficult to reach and most of the time the relationship ends without ejaculation. I am only 50 years old! What's the problem, is Viagra or Cialis the solution? Thank you

From what you tell me, you seem to have healthy eating and smoking/alcohol habits. As I continue my analysis of your case, I notice that what tends to cause the most sexual problems is high blood pressure itself. If your blood pressure is poorly controlled and too high, this is probably what is causing you erectile dysfunction. Have you measured your blood pressure lately? If not, there is indeed a small association between hydrochlorothiazide and these problems, although it is often high blood pressure that is responsible. In this case, a change of medication could be an interesting option if you speak with your pharmacist or your doctor. In the meantime, it has been proven that weight loss and exercise sessions (adapted to your gonarthrosis) of about twenty minutes in the hours preceding the relationship can have a good impact. Hoping to have answered your question, Jean-Félix Côté, pharmacist

Hello Mr. Coté, I would like to thank you for taking the time to inform me about my health condition. To be honest about my hypertension, I never measure it, I tell myself that the medication controls it and I haven't changed anything in my life habits so everything is fine!!!!!!! Thank you again and I wish you a wonderful day or evening
