I have diarrhea from an antibiotic (Clavulin). Should I take Pepto-Bismol?

Hello, I am a 34 year old woman. I have been taking an antibiotic morning and evening for 2 days (Amoxicillin and Clavulin) for a bronchitis. Despite taking probiotics at noon, I have diarrhea. Can I take pepto bismol or imodium (these are medications I take occasionally)? If so, is there a time that is better than taking antibiotics?

Hello, have you just started or are you almost finished your antibiotic treatment? Have you had any other antibiotic treatments lately? Diarrhea is a known side effect of antibiotics, especially with clavulin. Do you take it with food? Yes, the use of probiotics at lunchtime is a good way to prevent diarrhea. What product are you currently using? If this is not enough, imodium or pepto bismol can be used at any time if it is necessary for you to be comfortable. Is the diarrhea significant? How many times a day? It is important to stay well hydrated depending on the intensity of your symptoms. Also, are you taking an anti-viral medication? I look forward to helping you!

Hello, thank you for your answer. I am in the middle of my antibiotic treatment (4th day of 7), no other antibiotic treatment recently. I take my antibiotics with meals. The probiotic I am using is Align. Diarrhea is not significant, nor very frequent (2-3 times a day). I don't take anovulants.

The aclavulanic acid in the clavulin is probably responsible for your discomfort, despite the intake of food and the probiotic. Nevertheless, this should resolve itself at the end of the treatment. Continue what you are already doing, take imodium only if necessary. Have a nice day!
